The Bach Center has prepared a self-help questionnaire to guide you through the remedy selection process. The questionnaire is usually tucked next to the remedy display at health food stores, but is also online by clicking here.
When you work through the questionnaire, you’ll need to acknowledge your emotional shortcomings. Although the phrase “I’m self-centered, unfeeling, and generally lazy” does not actually appear anywhere on the Bach questionnaire, you’ll be compelled to face your dark side with honesty and candor if you want the remedies to be successful. Anyway, nobody’s looking over your shoulder.
Once you’ve completed the questions, you’ll be able to determine the remedies best suited for your emotional state. Most people discover they need anywhere from two to six separate essence remedies. At this point, you have a few options:
• You can purchase the remedies individually (they run about $8 per bottle) from a health food store or from our WholeHealth Chicago Apothecary. Then make your own formula by adding 2/3 distilled water and 1/3 preservative such as brandy or vegetable glycerine to a one-ounce dropper bottle. To that mix, add a few drops of each remedy and shake well. Your formula is now ready for a cycle of use, usually lasting weeks to several months. The dose is 4 drops under the tongue, four times daily, or you can add 12 to 15 drops to your bath.
• You can have your formula filled at our Apothecary. We have all 38 Bach remedies available as well as more than 100 additional remedies by Flower Essence Services. Call or email our staff and they’ll have it ready for pick-up within 24 hours or will ship to you. (773-296-6700 ext. 2001)
• You can schedule a private consultation with our herbalist Seanna Tully, who is trained in flower essence therapy with Flower Essence Services. Perhaps you’ve completed the Bach questionnaire and feel that most of the 38 essences apply to you and you don’t know where to begin. Seanna can help you determine the specific remedies most helpful for you. She’s available by appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Whichever option you choose, don’t expect a quick fix. It can take anywhere from several days to many weeks before you begin to perceive changes. The action of flower essence therapy is subtle, but you will sense a shift from within as negative emotions begin to fade away.
If you’ve got the courage to confront a few of your stress-causing demons, bring up the questionnaire on your computer and see what remedies might be right for you.
Be well,
David Edelberg, MD
