Yoga, good balance, and trying not to fall after menopause!

Which comes first, your hip fractures and you fall or you fall and then you fracture your hip? (G-d forbid)  Answer -It can happen both ways, especially if you have osteoporosis. We all know that the practice of yoga can help us create strength and flexibility but now there is a study available showing that yoga “improves balance and quality of life in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.” Quality of life included pain, daily living, household activities, mobility, social activities, and mental health. I try to accomplish a few yoga postures each morning before I start my day. Here, in the clinic, we teach a “short form” of yoga that you can do in 5 minutes. It’s called joints and glands exercise and it’s easy to learn. Find an instructor that you trust and will teach you gently.

To you health
