I met him when he\u2019d just turned 80 and he looked terrific.<\/p>\n<p>He attributes his well-being to lifestyle choices. Now, a study published in the <em>Journal of the American Medical Association<\/em> (November 15, 2006) virtually confirms that these choices determine most everything about the odds of a man reaching healthy old age.<\/p>\n<p>To begin, the study pretty much acknowledges that men like Mr. Linkletter are the exception, rather than the rule. It\u2019s mostly women who make it into the spry 80\u2019s and 90\u2019s, not men.<\/p>\n<p>The article says a guy in his late fifties has the best chance for surviving into advanced old age (their term) if he:<br \/>\n\u2022\tMaintains a lean body mass<br \/>\n\u2022\tExercises regularly<br \/>\n\u2022\tDoesn\u2019t smoke<br \/>\n\u2022\tAvoids over-consumption of alcohol<br \/>\n\u2022\tKeeps his blood pressure in a normal range<br \/>\n\u2022\tAvoids sugar, sugary foods, and simple carbohydrates (to reduce diabetes risks)<\/p>\n<p>Linkletter, in his new book <em>How to Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life<\/em>, agrees with these, and adds:<br \/>\n\u2022\tKeeping stress under control<br \/>\n\u2022\tMaintaining a positive mental attitude<br \/>\n\u2022\tA program of nutritional supplements<\/p>\n<p>From my own observation, women, in comparison to men:<br \/>\n\u2022\tAre more involved in personal health issues<br \/>\n\u2022\tAre willing and flexible enough to make changes from an unhealthful lifestyle to a healthful one<br \/>\n\u2022\tExercise more, smoke less, drink less<br \/>\n\u2022\tWill more readily take steps to reduce stress (counseling, yoga, meditation)<br \/>\n\u2022\tAre more weight conscious<\/p>\n<p>With this data at hand, here\u2019s what you can do to support the man in your life:<br \/>\n\u2022\tDon\u2019t enable unhealthful behavior.<br \/>\n\u2022\tHelp him quit smoking and limit alcohol.<br \/>\n\u2022 Shop and cook together&#8211;choose foods that are low-fat, with minimal sugar, and high in complex carbs, including lots of fruit and veggies.<br \/>\n\u2022\tKeep portion control in mind.<br \/>\n\u2022\tDo some exercise together: plan an hourlong daily brisk walk, go to yoga class or the health club, take active vacations.<br \/>\n\u2022\tSuggest a nutritional supplement regimen. At minimum, he should be taking a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.triplewhammycure.com\/supplements\/multiplex-1-without-iron\/prod_34.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">high-potency multiple vitamin<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.triplewhammycure.com\/supplements\/cyto-redoxin\/prod_59.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">high-potency antioxidant<\/a>.<br \/>\n\u2022\tRemind him to make appointments for a check-up, eye and dental examinations, and colonoscopy.<\/p>\n<p>So that, when he turns ninety, he can say to his handful of surviving male friends, \u201cI definitely wouldn\u2019t have made it this far without her.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former TV host Art Linkletter, now 94, still travels 150,000 miles a year delivering more than 75 lectures on healthful longevity, and moves around like someone in his thirties.
