Like every other person taking multiple supplements, I get terribly tired of pill swallowing and hope to high heaven all these pills are actually doing something. Yes, I know some of the studies are conflicting about supplements, but overall the data is compelling enough that I keep it up.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, however, researchers at the University of California (Berkeley) decided to track the overall health and well-being of the individual they tagged the \u201cmultiple nutritional supplement user.\u201d Namely, people with trays of vitamins like mine. They compared 278 users with 602 non-users.<\/p>\n<p>The typical assortment of supplements of a member in the user group included: a multiple vitamin, B complex, C, D, E, calcium, fish oil, Co Q 10, resveratrol, glucosamine, and an herbal immune support. Men often added saw palmetto for prostate; women, a probiotic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After adjusting for a variety of factors that might alter the data, like weight, risk factors for specific diseases, amount of exercise, and so forth, the researchers concluded that among the supplement users there was:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022\t52% less coronary artery disease<br \/>\n\u2022\t73% less diabetes<br \/>\n\u2022\tSignificantly lower blood pressure<br \/>\n\u2022\tHigher HDL (good) cholesterol<br \/>\n\u2022\tLower C-reactive protein (test for systemic inflammation)<br \/>\n\u2022\tLower homocysteine (heart disease risk factor)<br \/>\n\u2022\tVery high levels of self-reported health status&#8211;either \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cexcellent\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even the most skeptical nay-sayers about supplements have to admit these results are impressive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re curious about what I take everyday, here\u2019s my list:<\/strong><br \/>\n1.\tMultiplex (multiple vitamin without iron), twice a day<br \/>\n2.\tVitamin C&#8211;1,000 mg, twice a day<br \/>\n3.\tVitamin D&#8211;1,000 IU, twice a day<br \/>\n4.\tVitamin E&#8211;400 IU, twice a day<br \/>\n5.\tCo Q 10&#8211;50 mg, twice a day<br \/>\n6.\tFish oil&#8211;one capsule twice a day<br \/>\n7.\tAcetyl-L-carnitine&#8211;500 mg, twice a day (memory enhancement)<br \/>\n8.\tPhosphatidyl serine&#8211;100 mg, twice a day (memory enhancement)<br \/>\n9.\tPhosphatidyl choline&#8211;500 mg, twice a day (memory enhancement)<br \/>\n10.\tGlucosamine\/chondroitin&#8211;twice a day (joint health)<br \/>\n11.\tProstate phytonutritional&#8211;twice a day (prostate)<br \/>\n12.\tLycopene&#8211;twice a day (prostate cancer prevention)<br \/>\n13.\tLipotropic factors&#8211;twice a day (liver support)<br \/>\n14.\tDetoxication factors&#8211;twice a day (liver support)<br \/>\n15.\tUltraResveratrol&#8211;twice a day (antioxidant)<br \/>\n16.\tCyto-Redoxin&#8211;twice a day (antioxidant)<br \/>\n17.\tGreen Tea Extract&#8211;twice a day (antioxidant)<br \/>\n18.\tHost Defense&#8211;twice a day (herbal immune support)<br \/>\n19.\tLow-dose aspirin&#8211;81 mg, once a day (heart attack\/stroke prevention)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Click here for the original post.
