Ancient Healing: An Evening of Acupuncture and Shamanic Healing

Thursday, May 10th, 6-7:30pm
Registration: $65

Join Katie Oberlin, shamanic healing practitioner, and Mari Stecker, licensed acupuncturist, for a special evening of healing.

Mari Stecker, LAc is WholeHealth Chicago’s lead acupuncturist and is one of the three original co-founders of American WholeHealth which became WholeHealth Chicago in 1999. She treats a variety of health conditions with a focus on dermatology, gynecology, and reproduction.

Katie Oberlin received her training in shamanic healing from the Power Path School of Shamanism, Sante Fe, NM in 2013. She is also a Healing Touch Certified Practitioner and Instructor, and has been practicing energy medicine since 2005.

This event is sure to be a unique opportunity to experience the ancient traditions of acupuncture and shamanic healing blended into an evening of relaxation and renewal.

After a shamanic opening ceremony, participants will receive an acupuncture treatment to encourage deep relaxation.  The evening will continue with other features of shamanism including healing songs, drumming and other energetic clearing and alignment techniques.  We’ll end the evening with a closing ceremony to move forward with health, vitality and gratitude.

From a shamanic perspective, the East is the direction of new beginnings:  Springtime, sunrise, the beginning of a new day with infinite possibilities. Shamanic healing helps you clear old patterns and pave the way for creating something new in your health and your life.

In Chinese Medicine, spring is a time of detox and rebirth. Just as the flowers are popping up and showing themselves, we are emerging from the slumbers of winter to face the sun and begin anew.

You will be lying on yoga mats so please bring a pillow and blanket to ensure your comfort.

Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Register online or by calling (773) 296-6700.

  • When Your Thyroid Medication Isn’t Working

Let’s start with two thyroid facts:  The diagnosis of hypothyroidism (low levels of thyroid hormone) is missed by most physicians.Patients arrive with obvious symptoms of hypothyroidism every doctor learned in medical school, among them sensitivity to cold, weight gain, dry skin, fatigue, and constipation. The doctor listens, sometimes attentively, and then orders a TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) blood test. TSH does not come from the thyroid itself, Read More

  • Physicians And Empathy

Some time ago I read an essay by a woman who described her experiences being employed as a medical actor. She’d been hired, along with some retirees, local theater majors, and a few people who were just curious, to play the role of patient in a training program for a local medical school. To start, she was assigned an identity that actually contained a lot of Read More

  • Controversial Diagnosis #6: Chronic Lyme Disease

Since no one argues about the existence of Lyme disease, right up front you should know that the controversy here centers on the word “chronic.” In my view, the arguments among physicians about whether or not such an entity exists are becoming a bit ridiculous. First, let’s briefly cover acute Lyme disease. Although certain states have more cases than others, acute Lyme disease has been Read More
