Wellbeing for Seasonal Change

A Three Saturday Workshop Series
October 28th, November 18th, and December 9th
(Designed as a series, but not mandatory to attend more than one session)

1:30pm – 3pm
$49 for one, $120 for all three

Late Fall is the natural transition from our vibrant summer and harvest season, to a cooler and quieter time of year. While this transition is necessary for the natural world and ourselves, the shorter daylight hours and longer nights can have unique and challenging effects on many of us.

This three session workshop will discuss the best suited practices for our own transition into the Winter season with ease and contentment. Mindfulness practices will be taught to cultivate awareness in the present moment, manage stress, and reduce anxiety. Breathing techniques and movements will be practiced to increase energy levels at the beginning of the day, and postures for restoration in the evening. Guided meditations and journaling exercises will close out each session to promote motivation and gratitude.

Seasonal Transition with Ease
October 28th 1:30 – 3:00pm
This first workshop in the “Wellbeing for Seasonal Change” series will include discussion on the significance of the Winter season from a yogic perspective. The science of Ayurveda will be lightly discussed as a method for learning more about our own internal rhythms and cycles, and how to best live in harmony with the natural world.

Practices will include breathing techniques that promote mindfulness in the present moment, and its application for managing stress, depression, and anxiety.  Gentle movements will be explored for body awareness and posture as we move through the colder months. Activities that are quieter and more introspective, such as coloring, reading, or journaling, will be discussed for receiving the most from your Winter season.

Enhance Your Energy (All Season Long!)
November 18th 1:30 – 3:00pm
Our posture can speak our mind, and reflect how we are feeling. Heavy coats and scarves place an additional burden on our shoulders as the months get colder. This second session in the “Wellbeing for Seasonal Change” series will discuss how to most efficiently use our energy at the beginning of the day, and restore our energy by the end.

Gentle warm ups throughout the major joints in the body will reduce tension, and leave you feeling lighter. Spinal extension and strengthening will improve posture, so you can expend less energy throughout your day, and experience greater comfort.  The practice will conclude with restorative postures to open the chest, lengthen the spine, and unwind the hips – an ideal practice for cold, Winter evenings!

Meditations for a New Season
December 9th 1:30 – 3:00pm
Continuing the practice of mindful awareness and using energy efficiently from the previous two sessions, this third session will explore practices of gratitude, contentment, and joy. After a gentle practice of yoga postures and mindful awareness, light reflection on the year that is ending will be explored with a sense of gratitude. Mudras, which are hand gestures used to invoke core qualities within us, will be practiced with meditation on new possibilities in the coming year. Journaling will be incorporated throughout the session, as you tap into your inner guidance.

Renee Zambo, RYT is WholeHealth Chicago’s Yoga Therapist and specializes in using all aspects of yoga to teach patients self-care tools for a variety of health related concerns.
