Menopause Herbal Combination

What Is It?

As indicated by its name, a menopausal herbal combination provides a number of helpful herbs in one convenient capsule, sparing you the inconvenience of taking an assortment of products. Standard components of such combination products include such traditional “female-healthy” herbs as black cohosh, chasteberry, dong quai, and soy. Many contain additional herbs such as kava and dandelion root that can help with specific symptoms, as well as key nutrients such as calcium, vitamins E , C, and B, and magnesium.

Although these combination products typically contain less of each herb than WholeHealth Chicago normally recommends, the overall effect of a combination may be just fine for putting the brakes on hot flashes and other discomforts associated with menopausal symptoms. Experiment with different combinations to find a product that’s most effective for your set of symptoms.

Before trying a menopausal herbal combination, read the label carefully to ascertain that it has the key ingredient: black cohosh. Then check the number of milligrams of each ingredient to make sure it approximates the low end of the doses for the individual herbs or nutrients recommended in our WholeHealth Chicago Reference Library.

General Interaction

The amount of each individual ingredient in a menopausal herbal combination product is usually quite small. The best approach for anyone concerned about possible interactions with a drug or dietary supplement is to refer to the separate entries (black cohosh, dandelion, dong quai, soy) in our WholeHealth Chicago Reference Library.

Cautions

See individual entries in the WholeHealth Chicago Reference Library for cautions on specific herbs or nutrients contained in your menopausal herbal combination.

  • Preparing for the Wuhan Coronavirus

Seems like only yesterday, though actually it was 2003, that a viral infection called SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) meandered around the world after starting at a live animal market China. For those affected, what first appeared to be an especially bad cold quickly became something ominous, progressing to a potentially fatal pneumonia. Ultimately there were 8,098 cases of SARS around the world with 774 Read More

  • Infertility Issues? Start With The Guy

I’ve lost track of the number of couples we treat at WholeHealth Chicago who are involved in one of the hormone injection/surgical procedure stops on the conveyor belt of infertility centers. Currently, it’s estimated that 15 to 20 percent of couples are struggling with infertility, half of them due to male factors. The infertility docs are nice enough and certainly well-meaning, but I note a Read More

  • Issues with Endocrinologists: Thyroid Approaches and Big Pharma

My beefs with endocrinologists pretty much center on how they manage thyroid gland concerns, though they rarely win prizes for managing adrenal issues either. I don’t know any endocrinologists personally and rarely refer my patients to them. Occasionally, a patient with newly diagnosed hypothyroidism (low thyroid) will want to confirm the diagnosis with an endocrinologist. I suggest she prepare for a scolding if she’s taking Read More
