I am grateful for what you all have done for me and how you do it. It’s been a long time trying to find clinicians who truly listen, use modern diagnostics such as ION and who are even willing to discuss the role of nutrition or something like core strength as pertaining to fatigue. I have found individual silos of help over the years, but not a truly integrated approach under one roof. Given clinicians slow acknowledgement of some of the modern, difficult-to-diagnose conditions (cfs/fibro) and diagnostics (ION/Adrenal Profile), there can be doctor fatigue, trying to convince someone a symptom is real yet one more time. After years of it, interacting with just one more clinician openly can be challenging. Interacting with a group of clinicians on all the aspects of a situation would have seemed near impossible. The Whole Health team made it easy for me. You all have given me practical results, explained with both modern and ancient diagnostics and in a very comforting manner. And it is more than just good bedside manner. It’s having an entire group, each person having good bedside manner, backed up by the range of modern diagnostic and treatment talent. Perhaps it is just normal days’ work for you all. Perhaps I’ve been overseas too long dealing with different operating modes, but I doubt it. Regardless, my experience is that you all have created something special in your practice. It has been very helpful to me. I am grateful. I appreciate having worked with each person I’ve interacted with at WH – Dr. Donigan, you, Karen, Marla, MaryGrace and the ladies at the front desk. You all have been very helpful and a delight to work with.
In October of 2009, I sought out medical advise from my PCP of back then with complaints of stomach distress (frequent bloating and discomfort). The PCP sent me to a lab for blood work to r/o H Pylori and Celiac Disease. The results returned positive for Gluten Intolerance. Later a biopsy of my small intestine was performed to confirm the diagnosis. I immediately then changed my life style to Gluten free.
Close to year post my diagnosis, I still wasn’t 100%. The PCP sent me to an allergist for further testing which was an allergy test performed by using the skin scratch method. The allergy test showed positive for multiple food and enviromental allergens. After all these testings and abiding of changing my life style accordingly, I STILL wasn’t 100%.
I decided that the year of 2012 was going to be THE year of finding better medical methods which had me find WholeHealth Chicago. I have been under the care of Dr. Kelley and Seanna together and must say, what a super team of medical heroines they have become for me.
With my initial visit with Dr. Kelley I was very impressed on the extensive and thorough tests she ordered for me which had me question “Why did my PCP (of then) never ordered these tests?!” I knew from that moment I was at the right place. Seanna took the time to go over in DETAIL in regards to my allergy result of which I had taken back then with the allergist whom she NEVER explained it the way Seanna did. Again, confirmation I was at the right place.
These two examples is just a tiny scratch on the surface of the MANY more experiences of wonderful and thorough care I have been given by Dr. Kelley and Seanna. I can not justifably express the gratitude I have for them both. They are truly important attributes to WholeHealth Chicago. 1.5 hours one way 😉 but still worth every bit of Chicago’s infamous around the clock traffic. Lol. Without them here at WholeHealth Chicago, I would be seeking medical care elsewhere.
Infertility and Traditional Chinese Medicine
After two miscarriages resulting in two D&Cs within a one-year period, I found myself emotionally drained and feeling hopeless about the idea of ever having a child. My doctor did not know what was wrong and could only give me options that seemed extreme and invasive. My depression and anxiety were taking their toll on my marriage. The onset of the Chicago winter wasn’t helping matters and after an excessively negative reaction to the biting cold and frozen pipes of our new house, bought for the child I was supposed to have, I knew that I needed to change something about my situation soon before everything collapsed in on itself.
I did research and discovered that many couples had had success with the help of acupuncture. I’m a skeptic but I was a hopeless skeptic. I discovered WholeHealth Chicago and Mari. My first appointment I took the train to the office, cursed the elements, and wondered to myself as I sat waiting among the hippie/alternative types what the hell I was doing here. It only took one session with Mari to know that something had changed within me; I had never felt better. I discussed with my husband the needles and the “heat stick” I was supposed to place above my womb and I’m sure there was a part of him that was convinced I had lost what was left of my mind. We didn’t try to get pregnant for another 6 months. In that time I made my weekly acupuncture visits a sacred ritual; a time for only me. Most visits were the same in which the first 25 minutes my thoughts rushed and swarmed around and I was only able to fully let go for the remaining 20 minutes.
One day when I was lying on the table I finally had an honest moment with myself in which I knew that no matter the outcome that everything would be okay. I was okay with what was and what is and what will be. It was my breakthrough and what acupuncture truly did for me was give me a perspective on myself that allowed my brain to work with my body rather than against it. Three months later I was pregnant. I now have an amazing 2-year-old daughter and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my second child. There isn’t a single day that goes by, seeing my child grow, that I don’t think of and thank Mari for her healing. She didn’t fix my body; I’m not sure my body needed too much fixing. She healed the part of me that makes the miracle of all things physical, particularly childbirth, possible. Her help is without measure.
My husband and I were on an emotional roller coaster ride trying to get pregnant with our second child. I had four unsuccessful rounds of IVF treatments. During my consultation with a new physician, acupuncture was discussed. I knew very little about acupuncture, but was willing to try anything. I had acupuncture treatments starting a few weeks before my IVF retrieval as well as before and after my transfer. Acupuncture had a very calming effect on me mentally. The time spent lying down helped me to relax and concentrate on my body. Each time I completed a treatment I felt positive and more connected to my inner self. Physically, I was successful and pregnant after my fifth IVF treatment. I am again pregnant–with my third child; this pregnancy was achieved following acupuncture and another transfer. I am a believer that Chinese and Western medicine go hand in hand.
I tried to get pregnant for a couple of years with no success. When I finally was pregnant, with twins, I was very fortunate to have seen Mari throughout out my pregnancy. Her expertise was essential in helping me maintain a healthy pregnancy. I now have two beautiful daughters. Thank you.
For the last couple of years I’ve been seeing Katie Oberlin for Healing Touch energy sessions. If only I could aptly describe the experience! (It’s a little like trying to describe a color.) I had no idea what energy work was before I saw Katie. Even after several sessions, I wasn’t sure. I only knew that the work left me feeling grounded, clear-headed, and at peace. Over time, I also began to notice more subtle, longer-lasting effects: greater insights, a clearer sense of purpose, a sense of empowerment. The sessions became especially important to me as I faced a major life upheaval. In fact, emotional imbalance or stress issues are usually what have me turning to Katie, but I’ve enjoyed surprising physical benefits as well. Several years ago, after abdominal surgery, I wasn’t recovering like the surgeon said I should be, so I came to Katie weak, dizzy, a with a case of mysterious hives. I left renewed and refreshed, in awe that, despite all science knows about our bodies, there is still a wisdom at work that is mysterious and sublime. Katie embodies this wisdom. I’m so glad I found her!
“I shuffled into Whole Health with my chin literally stuck to my chest after an errant yoga pose. Dr Cliff worked on my neck for 2.5 hours until I could once again look people in the eye. Knowing that I would have a rough time the next day with stiffness, he came in at 7am, a couple of hours earlier than his scheduled shift. He also came in at 7am on a saturday, which was 5 hours earlier than he was scheduled to start working! This dedication to my wellness is something I have rarely encountered in the medical field. His knowledge and instructions had me back to normal very quickly.”
Hello Dr. Rubin. This is just a brief note to again express my sincere thanks for aiding me on my journey to self-discovery and vibrant health. Two weeks have passed since my last day at my former job. Never have I felt healthier, happier, or more thrilled about living. My stress markers have dissipated. My moods have improved. My digestion is working properly. My rest has become sweeter. My body and mind have healed significantly. You have been instrumental in re-shaping my future, whether you realized your impact, or not. Thank you!
I want you to know how much help Karen Meier has been in repairing my back. It was out of line and took a little time to repair, but thanks to Karen I am just fine now. Not only is she an excellent physical therepist but she is a wonderful person. You certainly know how to pick your staff. Thanks.
Ever since I was a baby I have had stomach problems, diagnosed as lactose and soy intolerant; finding formula was not easy or cheap for my parents. As I got older stomach pain was always an issue for me, I even got to the point where I no longer wanted to eat because it seemed everything I ate made my stomach upset, not just dairy. I was miserable and in constant pain. My co-worker suggested WholeHealth Chicago, specifically Marla Feingold as my co-worker’s father suffers from severe colitis and Marla has turned his life around. I was very excited and desperate at this point as I had been to a gastroenterologist who gave me a colonoscopy, endoscopy and celiac disease test that all came back as if I was in perfect health. I was told I have IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) and have to understand that some days will be worse than others and to just live with it. I was also given some pills to take with every meal, they wore off shortly, and I knew taking medicine with every meal was not the answer. I was very frustrated and wanted answers I then saw Marla. Marla put me on a very restricted diet as she suspected I had severe food allergies. After being on a restricted diet for over a month and meeting with Marla, we were able to pin-point my food allergies, gluten, dairy, and soy. Although this has been a total lifestyle change I could not be happier. I feel healthy, lean and strong, for the first time in years! No more stomach pain, bloat, gas or diarrhea; truly life changing. I have learned to eat what makes my body feel good and avoid foods that I am allergic to. I am a healthier, happier person now and I have no one to thank other than Marla Feingold!
