The challenges of contemporary life make it all too easy to accumulate stress. Without the proper attention, stress builds until we feel overwhelmed and as if we are living “in our heads” too much. Stress has become such a widespread issue that scientists and medical experts from around the world study how stress affects health, healing, it’s impact on disease, and conditions such as chronic pain and fatigue.
Everyone faces some type and severity of stress, and there are many ways to manage it. So many ways, in fact, that it can be hard to decide where to start. In a sea of suggestions to reduce stress, it is important to find a practice that works best for you.
WholeHealth Chicago will host a Monthly Mindfulness Group the third Monday of every month. Every month will highlight a new technique that focuses on stress reduction and mindfulness – how we can be more aware and present in our lives. Just as we floss our teeth to get rid of plaque, wash our hands free of toxins; mindful practices “cleanse” distracting thoughts and judgements so we can really be in the present moment. Not only does a mindful approach to our lives prepare us to be more effective at work, it opens us to enjoy the beauty and wonder of the ordinary moments of our lives.
Sessions will include mindfulness meditations, guided visualizations, gentle yoga movements, walking meditations, journaling, and other stress reduction exercises. Bill Epperly and Renee Zambo host this two-hour ongoing group, with special guests from WholeHealth Chicago’s amazing and talented medical staff. Each night you will go home with tools that you learned for stress reduction, deep relaxation, and peace. The sessions will focus on practice time but include opportunities for discussion on integrating these practices into daily life. Additional resources are distributed to reinforce each month’s learning. All levels of experience are welcome!

Bill Epperly, PhD, has been teaching mindfulness meditation and embodiment practices for over fifteen years. He teaches mindfulness at Loyola University and is on the faculty at Infinity Foundation in Highland Park. He is a lifelong student of eastern and western spiritual traditions as well as contemporary approaches to stress reduction and healing.
Renee Zambo is a 500hr Yoga Teacher through Integrative Yoga Therapy, and has been teaching in Chicago for five years. From a young age, Renee has been drawn to the approach of yoga as therapy for its all-encompassing mental, physical, and emotional benefits. She works with individuals and groups to explore how yoga therapy can bring wellness into everyone’s life.
